Moving objects between layers
When you create a new object, path, or shape, Expression Design always places it on the current layer (whichever layer is currently selected in the Layers panel). When you select an object on your page, the Layers panel automatically selects the layer that contains that object. Or, you can change the current layer by clicking once on the desired layer's tile in the Layers panel.
You can move a selected object from one layer to another in one of two ways.
- If you expand a layer in the Layers panel so you can see the object list, you can drag an object to a new position in the Layers panel, including to a new layer. To drag the object into a new layer, drag until a dark bar appears underneath the layer name.
- You can Copy or Cut the object, and then select the new layer by using Paste, Paste in Front, or Paste in Back. If you want to move more than one path or shape at a time, and the objects are on multiple layers, you can use Copy and Paste to move them. Note that Paste With Layer on the Edit menu will not work, as this feature places the object back on the original layer.
